Performance Measurements Part 2
Most
people say lots of things to family, co-workers and clients that sound so good
but are meaningless. For example
when you tell someone to change their attitude or have a good attitude.
What does that mean? Ask a
few people what having a good attitude is or how to change it and they will
falter. Attitude is created by
your thinking. It might be better
to ask someone who has a bad attitude about work (negative thinking etc.) to
say five things that are good about work and focus on those five positive
things. Basically attitude is the
amount of your focus about something or someone.
If you focus on the negative aspects of a situation, many would call
this a bad attitude. Using the SMART techniques that we talked about last
week, we might say to someone. Every
time you think of or go to or meet
(Person, Work, Job or class) think of five
things that are good about that (Person, Work, Job or Class).
Focus on those positive
things.
We say to people work harder what does that entail we need to be specific about what it looks like and how to do it. You might want to come up with some ideas at a meeting, this makes a great activity and you can even do it one on one with clients. You might want to say to someone. When I use the word attitude what does that mean to you and do you know how to create it?
Another thing that you might want to take a look at is your job descriptions and see if they use the SMART method.
