New Year, New Commitments, New Resolutions

It happens every year I think about making goals for the New Year. Every year I am reminded of the saying, “if you do this year what you did last year you will end up in the same place next year.” I don’t think that is a waste of time to make goals. Even if I don’t keep all of them, I will do something differently this year then last year. Resolutions are like public commitments that help add a little peer pressure (make sure you share them with friends). I am reminded everyday as I do my TO DO LIST how important it is to have goals. This year I have a choice, life by accident or a life by plan. Yearly goals are your strategic plans, so that the coming year is better then last year. I usually put them into four categories.

  1. Self-improvement : This could include any weight loss, exercise or health related issues, reading you want to do.

  2. Career : What things would help improve your job condition? What can you do to help that come about?

  3. Financial : How can you save more money or pay off the bills? How can you improve my income?

  4. Relationships : What kinds of things can you do on a daily basis to improve relationships, with supervisor, client, children or spouse? Finally, how can you assure that you will make a daily commitment to stick to my plan?
